Harvest Moon Echoes of Teradea How to Get a Horse Early
A player-reported route to tame a horse right after the prologue in Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea, plus food, timing and caution tips.

Table of Contents
Short answer
You can go after a horse as soon as the prologue ends. Head south out of Bloomfield Village, toward the area from the prologue's wolf scene, then follow the southern side instead of the western path. Past the rabbits you should run into three horses. Walk up slowly, pet them, and bring a food item such as a strawberry to speed things up. In the player account below, taming took about two in-game days plus a strawberry.

The route, as one player described it
This walkthrough comes from a YouTube playthrough by a player who had just finished the prologue, so the timing is very early in the story. Treat the directions as approximate: the narrator is casual about the game's name and mixes up left and right at one point, so use the general shape of the route rather than exact turns.
- Finish the prologue. The player starts this trip right after it, with barely any progress into the main story.
- Go south of town and south of your house, to the area you visited for the prologue's wolf encounter.
- Take the southern side rather than the western path. Where the prologue had you heading west, this route continues south instead.
- Keep going past the rabbits. The player had already petted two rabbits in that area before reaching the horses.
- Find three horses. They're standing together in the open. One has a brown coat and is the only one of its color.
- Approach slowly and pet them. The player sneaks up and pets all three. Food is optional but described as helpful.
- Sleep, then repeat. If you don't mind spending days, go home and sleep to roll into a new day, then come back and try again.
- Feed one to finish the tame. On the second day the player gave a horse a strawberry and it was tamed. The player's own estimate is "two days and a strawberry" — that's one player's count, not a fixed requirement.
Things that can go wrong
- Feeding one horse can scare the others. When the player fed a strawberry, the other horse bolted. If you specifically want the brown one, tame it first and don't feed the others near it.
- Horses move around. They don't stay put between visits, so expect to re-find them rather than returning to a marked spot.
- Taming may take more than one attempt. The player's approach was petting daily with food on hand. If a horse keeps pulling away, coming back the next day is the pattern that worked here.

What the horse actually gets you
A rideable mount isn't just a novelty. The Ushi No Tane preview page for Echoes of Teradea notes that a mount is needed to jump large crevasses and reach areas you otherwise can't get to, alongside climbing ladders and vines. That makes an early tame a reasonable investment if you like exploring ahead of the story.
One caveat from the same playthrough: the player says the horse has no separate sprint or speed button, but it still travels faster than the character's normal run. That's their observation on their own version, not a menu description.
If the horses keep running
These are general suggestions, not confirmed game mechanics:
- Try walking rather than running as you close the distance, and approach from behind or the side.
- If petting seems to make no progress, sleep and return the next day rather than grinding attempts in one sitting.
- Keep a cheap cooked item in your bag before you set out, so a failed approach doesn't cost you a trip.
- If you can save before the attempt, reloading a save is a harmless way to retry the same day — the video's author briefly mentions "resetting" before correcting himself to sleeping into a new day.
Version notes
The playthrough doesn't state which build or platform it was recorded on, so small differences in horse behavior between patches are possible. As of 2026-10-16, the official Steam page for Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea does not describe a horse-taming route, and the developer has not published a taming guide on that page — the steps above come entirely from player reporting. The same page lists a release date of Oct 14, 2026, while Ushi No Tane lists a North American release of October 15, 2026.
